  • April 13, 2013 (9:00 a.m.): 3.2 Mile Run in Remembrance of 32. The “Run in Remembrance” will be held on the VT Campus and is free and open to all runners, joggers, and walkers.   • April 14, 2013 (Sunday, 1 to 4 PM): Relay For Life 5K, on the Virginia Tech cross country course. Come join other Hokies for a fun day as we race to spread hope to all cancer patients and survivors. Registration tables open at 11:00am, where you can pick up your tank top (if you're one of the first 100 people to register!) and race bib. Registration is $16 before the day of the event and $20 the day of the race. Parking is available near the course at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Vet Medicine and at Smithfield Plantation. Not a runner? Don't worry; walkers are welcome.   • April 19–20, 2013 (p p.m. to 5 p.m.): Relay For Life 2013 will start on Friday, April 19, at 5 p.m. and continue through Saturday, April 20, at 5 a.m. The all-night event raises awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. | Read more.

  • April 20, 2013 (7:30 a.m.): Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon (Roanoke, VA and Blue Ridge Parkway). Full & Half Marathon, 5-Person Team Relay, Walking Half. YMCA Kids Marathon. The full marathon course includes 3,620 feet of total elevation gain and 7,234 feet of total elevation change. Web site.

  • April 20, 2013 (9:00 a.m.): The fourth annual Riverfront Challenge (Riverfront Park Downtown Lynchburg, VA) for runners, walkers and cyclists. Participants can choose between two challenge options, "Rugged" or "Relaxed". Runners choose either a 12k (7.5m) or a 5k (3m) run; Walkers choose either a 5k (3m) or 1 mile walk; Cyclists will ride 12 or 18 miles. Participants have 90 minutes to complete their challenge and qualify for a special raffle drawing to be held at the Ice Cream Social sponsored by Turkey Hill from 10:30 to noon.   • September 28, 2013 (10:00 a.m.): Marcus Ford First Annual 5K Celebration (Christiansbug, VA). he had a hereditary heart disease called Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT). Marcus passed away on March 17, 2012 in Arlington, VA from a hereditary heart disease called Catecholaminergic Polymorphic Ventricular Tachycardia (CPVT). Because of his love for sports and running we have created the Marcus Ford Annual Run/Walk 5K Celebration. In Santa Cruz, a city of about 2 million people, and in the Quechua Indian communities of Sucre, a city high up in the Andes Mountains most people are living in extreme poverty and cannot afford even the most basic medical care. Children are dying for lack of simple antibiotics. Mission of Hope is changing the situation by providing free medical care for about 100 patients a day, including free exams, free lab work, free ultrasound, free medicines, and free surgeries. To date, Mission of Hope has seen and helped more than 200,000 patients!   • June 14, 2014: Run With Grace 5K (Roanoke, VA). 5K Race starts at 8:00 am (Women) and 8:45 am (Men). 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 9:30 am. Proceeds from this race will be used to fund the Grace Lovegrove Scholarship which is given to a PHHS graduate each year, and to support the PH Cross Country & Track teams. The scholarship was established in 2005 to honor Grace Lovegrove, a PH graduate who was a “student for all seasons”; excelling in her studies, serving the community and PH, and earning 12 varsity letters in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.     Marcus Ford graduated from Christiansburg High School in 2007 and from James Madison University in 2011. He accepted a job in his senior year in college with Grant Thornton as a consultant in Alexandria, VA. Sadly, Marcus and his family found out while he was a junior in college that he had a hereditary heart disease called CPVT. Marcus passed away on March 17, 2012 in Arlington, VA, from this disease.
